Flowers are blooming, trees are sprouting new leaves and the weather is warming — spring is in full swing! This season is all about renewal and rejuvenation, and one of the easiest ways we can breathe new life into our homes begins by refreshing our front porch. Read on for easy porch decorating ideas that make for a beautiful spring entryway (and will make people want to come and say hello!).
Layer Planters for Colour & Texture
One of the most impactful ways to bring your front porch to life is through planters filled with beautiful flowers and shrubs that vary in colour, height and texture. “Go with varied heights for something more eclectic, or have them be symmetrical on each side of the door for a more traditional aesthetic,” says Liz Combs, one of our Atlanta-based designers. To further spruce up your entryway, add a woven basked filled with colourful flowers or small outdoor rugs.
Dress Up Your Door
“Always hang a wreath or decorative object on your front door for a small accessory with a big impact,” says designer Liz Combs. “It makes your home feel more inviting while also adding texture and a pop of colour to your front door.”
Use Pillows for a Pop of Colour & Personality
After a long winter, nothing says ‘welcome spring’ more than a burst of juicy colour. Layer bold and patterned throw pillows to brighten up your outdoor furniture and make your porch comfortable and welcoming. It’s a simple addition that’s sure to charm guests and passers-by.
Use a Door Mat for a Warm Welcome
A front door mat is one of the easiest and most effective ways to make your front porch more inviting. “Choose one with a fun welcome message, and add a 3×5 rug beneath it for a nice layered effect,” says Combs.
