Owner Christian Heise brought the traditional recipe over from Temuco, Chile, where his family was known in their region for their outstanding empanadas. After nearly two decades working in banquet halls, Christian became owner and chef of the Empanada Company at Browns Line and Lake Shore Blvd West, amassing an ever-growing group of local fans for the last 12 years.
Although you can enjoy empanadas that stay true to tradition, including beef, chicken and cheese, it’s the contemporary spin we can’t get enough of. With flavours such as curry coconut chicken, bacon, smoked gouda and green apple and lobster, it elevates this age-old recipe to a new level.
In addition to catering, wholesale and frozen empanadas, their take-out menu includes full size empanadas running $3 to $4 each and the smaller ‘Chubby Empanadas’ available by the dozen for $12. And of course, don’t leave without trying their one-of-a-kind, melt-in-your-mouth avocado fries, a genius creation unique to The Empanada Company. Deep fried chunks of panko-crusted creamy avocado served with tangy chipotle spinach dip and a perfect sprinkle of fresh ground pepper.
On the sweet side, the s’mores empanada, stuffed with banana and Nutella in a graham cracker and vanilla pastry with marshmallow brulee on top is a definite show-stopper. Stop by Tuesday to Saturday from noon until 830pm, but bring an empty stomach with you, these loaded empanadas require your full attention.
