Aside from the extra day off, our favourite part of Victoria Day is the dazzling firework displays that decorate the sky. No matter where you are in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA), there’s somewhere to enjoy this wonderful long-weekend tradition. We’ve put together a list of the most epic spots for fireworks for 2016.
Make it a full day event at Canada’s Wonderland. Gather the family and head to this famous amusement park in Vaughan to try their newest attraction Skyhawk and devour a funnel cake or two before settling down to watch the fireworks.
There’s nothing quite like watching fireworks from the water’s edge. Head over to Ashbridges Bay along Toronto’s lakeshore for a family outing or date night. This location is easily accessible via TTC or car and is walking distance for our Beyond the Sea and Eau Du Soleil residents. Remember to bring a sweater and blanket with you and try to get there early to secure the best spot.
Head over to Niagara Falls’ Clifton Hill and experience its one-of-a-kind Victoria Day fireworks. A free concert, sponsored by Coca-Cola starts at 8pm followed by the main event at 10pm. If you are looking to make the evening extra special, why not elevate your view? For six dollars, board the SkyWheel, a 175-foot tall Ferris wheel with an even more impressive view of the show.
For the foodies looking for more than just fireworks on Victoria Day, try Dundas Driving Park. The party starts at 6pm with live music and delicious food trucks followed by the fireworks at 9:30pm.
If you’d like to get in on the fun yourself, bring your fireworks down to the King’s Community Church around 9:15pm where church staff and volunteers create a unique show out of the donated fireworks. Get there early and don’t forget your blankets, lawn chairs and snacks.
If you’re putting on your own fireworks show this weekend, make sure you have a permit and stay safe with these firework safety tips. Stay tuned for the best parties and outdoor activities this weekend in the second instalment of our long weekend blog segment.
